Two Words: Donald Ross. Wait, Make that three: MISTER Donald Ross!

You say "Donald Ross" to any golfer with a modicum of golf
knowledge and a sense of the game's rich American history, well, you've said all you need to say!  Next thing, that golfer will ask, "Where and when can I play a Donald Ross Course?"

Dunedin was designed by the legendary golf course architect himself, carving it out of citrus groves.  Dunedin opened for play January 1, 1927.

There's been considerable speculation about the courses Ross designed, and if he actually visited the various sites.  Mr. Ross was on-site in early 1926, surveying the site and told the Dunedin Times the site was, "among the most naturally beautiful and suitable for golf."

In 1928 the Times quoted Ross as having told a New York businessman:  "The Dunedin Isles Golf and Country Club 18-hole course is my masterpiece."

Ross is credited with designing over 400 golf courses in the United States.  Dunedin is one of only two Donald Ross-designed golf courses within 40 miles of Dunedin that is open to the public.

"Rossed!"
If there is any doubt if Donald Ross were ever here, players will tell you:  HE STILL IS...Small greens, sloping edges and bunkers can take a sudden toll if you miss a shot.  When an approach shot hits the front of an elevated green and either stops dead or rolls back down to the fairway, members refer to this as getting "Rossed."

It's considered a badge of honor to Dunedin regulars that Ross designed their course.  In fact, it is that way at most of the 400 courses Ross laid out in the United States from the time he came to the United States from Scotland in the late 1800s until his death in 1948.

Ross ... was ... here. He still is!
